Have you ever felt like your hard work doesn't pay off and you make little or no progress towards your goals? Have you ever hit a plateau in your life?
Despite a popular belief, the problem isn't always with the lack of effort or concentration. Very often the main reason for not achieving the accomplishments you aspire to lies in the bad goal-setting system that doesn't provide enough clarity and makes your goals look not good enough.
The SMART goal system was designed to tackle exactly this issue and help you achieve your goals easier.
How SMART goal setting system works
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. This is what your goal statements should be.
Specific - all the goals have to be unambiguous and very precise so that you see exactly how the desired outcome looks like.
Measurable - the goals you set also have to be formed in such a way so that you can evaluate them and track the progress easily.
Achievable - you should aspire to achieve the biggest of your ambitions. However, they still need to be realistic and within your reach, meaning you should take into account real-life time constraints and scarcity of resources. This way you won't be struggling to keep up the momentum by looking at unrealistic and impossible objectives.
Relevant - each objective has to be meaningful and important for you right here, right now. This is crucial. Otherwise, you won't be interested enough in achieving it unless a goal looks worthwhile.
Time-bound - last but not least important characteristic of your goal statement is that it should have a specific landscape meaning that you have to specify a goal deadline when exactly you want to achieve it.
Overall, this system makes your goal statements much more informative, helping your stay motivated on short-term and long-term goals from different spheres of your life: personal goals and business goals.
